A 17-year-old boy who is reported to have stabbed a girl to death in Naivasha last week will spend nine more days in police custody at Naivasha police station.
During this time, the Directorate of Criminal Investigation (DCI) officers will conduct a mental check up on the Form Three student.
This follows an application by the DCI who had sought 14 days to complete investigations.
Naivasha Chief Magistrate Kennedy Bidali termed 14 days as too long and granted the investigators nine days instead.
The minor who looked lost in thought did not take a plea and said that he was not opposed to his continued detention.
Magistrate Bidali directed that he be detained at Naivasha Police Station and that a report on his age and mental condition be availed in court on December 11.
The Form Three student at Nanyuki High School was arrested in Naivasha’s Mirera estate after the lifeless body of Form Two student Valerie Njeri was found dumped on one of the feeder roads outside the accused’s home on Friday.
The girl’s naked body had twenty-six times stab wounds and the throat was slit. She went missing on Thursday from her parents’ posho mill.
The victim’s father said they had left Naivasha for a burial ceremony but they were unable to reach her by phone later in the day.
