Remember to buy water tanks for your mothers and fathers this Christmas, Government spokesperson Cyrus Oguna has said.
Oguna was addressing the media on Tuesday as he gave an update on the ongoing flooding situation across the country. He said water tanks would enable people to harvest the rainwater for future use.
For this month of Christmas, please take it upon yourself to buy your mother a water tank as a Christmas gift, for those who have not done that,” he said.
The government spokesman said every Kenyan should take initiative instead of waiting for the government to do its part.
“Ensure that they are able to trap and store that water for future use,” he added.
Oguna said 10 counties have been adversely ravaged by the floods with over 300,000 people affected.
The counties are Garissa, Lamu, Tana River, Kwale, Mombasa, Mandera, Wajir, Marsabit, Turkana, and West Pokot.
Reportedly, 132 people have lost their lives and 17,000 more displaced from their homes by the heavy rains.
Oguna said the government has dispatched 200 bags of rice, 560 bags of beans and 1,000 bales of fortified food to landslide victims in West Pokot.
He also appealed to Kenyans of goodwill to provide construction materials to the families affected by floods.
