The director of public prosecutions Noordin Haji has this morning ordered the immediate arrest of Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko.
Haji told the media that his office has enough evidence to proceed with a prosecution.
Among the allegations the governor is facing is the misappropriation of about Sh357million in the construction of Dandora stadium. The EACC made these investigations public in October.
Haji told the media that his investigating officers were threatened, as the governor made great attempts to hide the evidence and launder his loot.
Should Sonko be prosecuted and ordered to leave office, the city would be left in turmoil, since there is no deputy governor in office. Speaker Beatrice Elachi might find herself stepping in and acting in that role.
