Worshippers at Nyangati St. John Catholic Church in Kutus, Kirinyaga County were on Sunday left in shock after a man committed suicide within the church compound.
The Sunday service was briefly interrupted after one of the worshippers discovered the body of the deceased.
The man was identified as 26-year-old Dennis Bundi. His body was found dangling from a tree with a rope tied around his neck.
The church service resumed after the body was taken away by police officers from Wang’uru Police Station.
Church Chairman, Mr. Michael Gichinga, said they could not immediately establish why the man committed suicide.
The incident was the third suicide case to be reported in the area in less than a week.
Last Friday, two people committed suicide under unclear circumstances. 40-year-old Simon Kinyua reportedly took his life at Kanjata village in Kutus location.
Kutus Chief Nancy Gichuki said Kinyua had told his friends he would kill himself after his friend was gunned down over robbery in Thika.
The deceased was suspected to be a member of a gang involved in robbery cases in the Central region.
Elsewhere, 32-year-old Daniel Mwaniki from Ngomongo Village in Kirinyaga Central hanged himself in his house on Friday following alleged domestic wrangles with his wife.
