The highly anticipated Kibra by-election finally came to pass on Thursday, and predictably, it was everything we have come to expect from the highly volatile ODM stronghold.

Chaos and violence broke out, with some ODM supporters heckling and chasing away leaders allied to the Jubilee candidate McDonald Mariga.

In fact, the former footballer was among those who were chased away from ‘Baba’s bedroom’. Others included Starehe MP Jaguar, Kimilili MP Dismas Baraza, and former Kakamega Senator Boni Khalwale, who seemingly bore the brunt of supporters’ wrath.

However, it was not all gloom and doom as some supporters used the occasion to showcase their fashion sense. One man was pictured dressed in what looks like a Pharaoh costume made out of dried banana leaves.

There was also one Mr Cancious Ochieng’ Abich, a fashion savvy Kibra resident, who stole the show with his “high-waist” pants.

Speaking to journalists and the crowd that had milled around him, Mr Ochieng’ said he went to the polling station not only to vote but to also spread happiness and ease the political tension in Kibra.

While he did not vote – because his name was missing on the voter’s register-, the high-waisted fashionista said he was satisfied to have put smiles on people’s faces with his look.

He said he likes wearing his official wear in high waist style because it makes him happy when people get excited over his look.

Ochieng’ revealed that he has about twelve clothes similar to the one he was wearing and reiterated that it is his style.
