Wendy Waeni’s Former Manager Joe Mwangi in Police Custody

September 3, 2019

The former manager of teenage gymnast Wendy Waeni has finally been arrested.

Detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) arrested Joe Mwangi on Monday, three days after DCI boss George Kinoti issued a warrant of arrest against him.

Mwangi is accused of forgery and issuing threats to Wendy’s mother Magdalene Mbele. He allegedly forged a letter purporting to be from a Cabinet Secretary threatening the complainant.

The suspect is set to be presented in court “once necessary police process is complete,” the DCI said in a post on Twitter.

“Mr Joseph Mwangi Nduta alias Joe is in our custody. He will be charged appropriately once necessary police process is complete. We thank everyone that shared information on his whereabouts,” the tweet reads.

Wendy Waeni exposed Joe Mwangi during an interview on Citizen TV’s Jeff Joinange Live (JKL) where she accused her former manager of pocketing the money from her performances across the globe for the last five years.

But Joe Mwangi fought back accusing the child star’s mother Ms. Mbele of misusing the money on alcohol.

Ms. Mbele, however, dismissed the allegations, adding that she does not even drink alcohol because she is “a staunch Christian.”

“I’m a staunch Christian, I have never had alcohol in my life, my daughter can attest to that. Joe Mwangi is a liar and a fraud that is why it was best fit that he no longer manages my daughter,” she said.

She also accused Joe Mwangi of giving her a little share of the large sums of he was usually given by various politicians and media personalities to aid in developing and promoting her daughter.

“He received money from politicians in the name of my daughter; he got Sh.140,000 from Raila Odinga and only gave me Sh.30,000,” she said.

“In another instance, he got Sh.100,000 from Kalonzo Musyoka and TV presenter Jeff Koinange each and I only received Sh.20,000 and Sh.4,000 respectively.”
