A 50-year-old man is in police custody for allegedly defiling his one-and-a-half-year-old daughter in Nyamiacho village, Nyamira County.
The man, who is an ex-convict, was arrested on Sunday after being in hiding since Friday when he allegedly committed the act.
Nyamira North Police boss Timothy Muasya told Citizen Digital that the man was nabbed after members of Nyumba Kumi spotted him sneaking back into his house and alerted the police.
According to the man’s 19-year-old wife, she left the toddler under her father’s care on Friday only to return and find him washing the minor’s private parts.
She took her daughter to a nearby hospital where it was confirmed that the child had been defiled, upon which she reported to the police.
Nyamira County Commissioner Amos Mariba added that the suspect was only recently released from prison after serving a 15-year sentence.
The suspect was detained at Ekerenyo Police Station and is expected to be arraigned in court today, Monday, September 30.
