Inspekta Mwala to be Charged With Causing Death as Police Claim Actor was Drunk Driving

August 29, 2019

The once-celebrated actor Davies Mwabili popularly known by his comical TV role ‘Inspekta Mwala’ appears to be falling from grace after it emerged he might have been drunk when he hit and killed a pedestrian in Kaloleni, Kilifi County on Monday night.

According to police, the actor was driving under the influence when he hit 35-year-old Samwel Mwaki who was crossing the road, killing him on the spot.

The actor was driving from Kaloleni town on Mazeras Highway at around 11 pm when he tried to overtake and veered off the road, hitting the pedestrian.

Mwabili’s vehicle, a Toyota Axio, dragged Mr Mwaki for about 100 metres, fatally wounding him and crashing his skull, hands and legs before coming to a halt.

Rabai Police Chief David Maina upon receiving information of the crash, police rushed to the scene and rescued the actor who was on the verge of being lynched by enraged residents and boda boda riders.

Police had to fire in the air to disperse the angry crowd of bodaboda riders who were baying for the Radio Citizen presenter’s blood.

Following his arrest on Tuesday, Mwabili was freed on a Sh40,000 police bond pending his trial.

“The accused must appear in court on Friday next week to answer the charge of causing death by dangerous driving,” said Rabai Police Chief David Maina.

The fatal accident comes a week after an incident in Radio Citizen studios where Mwabili tried to forcefully kiss his co-host Melody Sinzore.

Following a public backlash, the actor issued a public apology to Melody and listeners.

“Pole, sitarudia tena,” said Mwala adding that “Actually, mimi nakuheshimu na kuku-appreciate kama mfanyikazi mwenza kama gwiji ambaye amekuwepo kwa industry kwa mda mrefu so tutadumisha tu heshima na tutadumisha amani.”
