How Kenyans on Twitter Reacted to Mpesa Hitch on Thursday Evening

May 17, 2019

Telco giant Safaricom’s mobile money transfer service M-Pesa on Thursday experienced a hitch that caused a momentary outage at around 6 PM.

Customers were getting a message saying: “MPESA is P1 (Critical) MPESA, MPESA service outage as from 2019-05-16 18:06. Services Impacted: All Mpesa services Country-wide, INC000006894423. FSS team faulting.”

Safaricom acted swiftly and restored Mpesa services at 8 pm, further apologizing to its stranded subscribers.

“We have restored all MPesa services following an outage that occurred at 1805hrs. We apologize for any inconvenience caused,” read a statement from Safaricom.

Naturally, the lapse made its way to the top trending topics on Twitter as some Kenyans humorously linked it to the ongoing Huduma Namba registration.
