Detectives in Eldoret are probing the death of Uasin Gishu Governor Jackson Mandago’s brother on Monday, the Star reports.

The body of the governor’s elder brother was found in a building at Chepkanga market on the outskirts of Eldoret town. Police suspect he may have been murdered and his body dumped in a section of the hotel under construction.

The body was discovered by a plumber who had gone to carry out repairs on water pipes.

Jeremiah Rotich, the proprietor of the hotel building, said the plumber was searching for a container to fetch water when he stumbled on the body.

“The plumber was looking for a tin when he walked to the area under construction and found the body of a well-dressed man,” said Mr Rotich.

The businessman noted that the deceased was a regular customer at the hotel and often visited during the weekends.

“The man was seen in a neighbouring joint with some friends last weekend but we do not know how his body ended up here,” said Rotich.

Adding, “Police are currently previewing CCTV footage to unravel what actually happened. We hope what transpired with be unraveled.”

Moiben deputy county commissioner Lilian Langat said several people have recorded statements.

“The body was found in an abandoned section of the building and police are carrying out the investigations so that we get to know exactly what happened,” said Langat.

She said the man was well known in the area, but his identity would only be released after his next of kin were notified.

Relatives also visited the scene before police took the body to Eldoret Hospital mortuary.

Mandago’s brother was an employee of the Kenya Pipeline in Eldoret. He had been working in Kisumu but was recently transferred to Eldoret.
