A suspected gangster was on Thursday gunned down in a deadly exchange of fire with police officers in Kayole.
The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) said its detectives, acting on a tip-off, approached a gang of two armed men who were robbing members of the public in the notorious estate in Eastlands, Nairobi.
The officers reportedly told the thugs to surrender but they defied their orders and fired at the law enforcers instead, resulting in a shootout.
One of the suspects was fatally injured while his accomplice managed to escape.
The police said they recovered a pistol and one round of ammunition from the slain suspect.
