Deputy President William Ruto is without a doubt a happy man today(Friday, December 20) as he celebrates three big milestones.

Top on the list is his doctorate graduation at the University of Nairobi which will change his title to Dr. William Ruto. He is graduating with a Ph.D. in Plant Ecology, a course he enrolled for in August 2012.

DP Ruto will be graduating after defending his thesis titled ‘Influence of human activities on land use changes on environmental quality of riparian ecosystems: A case study of Saiwa Swamp watershed, Western Kenya’.

About two years ago, Ruto did not make it to the graduation list after he failed to meet the necessary requirements.

The second in command will graduate alongside 9,000 other graduands at the UoN square from 7:30 am. Ruto will be conferred the title of Doctor alongside five others, whose names were approved by the Nairobi University Senate, chaired by VC Prof Peter Mbithi.

Incidentally, DP Ruto is also celebrating his birthday as he turns 52 – he was born on December 21, 1966, in Sambut village, Kamagut, Uasin Gishu to Daniel Cheruiyot and Sarah Cheruiyot.

It is on this same day that Ruto is celebrating 27 years of marriage to his wife Rachel Ruto, having made an honest woman out of the Second Lady in 1991.

On top of all of that, today is the beginning of the Christmas weekend. Talk about a perfect Furahiday!
