Nairobi governor Mike Sonko has lauded and rewarded the police for the extra-judicial killing of four suspected gangsters who were recently caught on camera robbing a Mpesa shop at gunpoint.
Over a week ago, we published the CCTV footage of the daring robbery which was later picked up by Sonko who issued a stern warning to the notorious Kayole/Dandora thugs.
Sonko also issued a 7 days notice to any member of the armed gang to surrender all their guns but the gang seemingly did not heed to the warning. Four of the gang members were gunned down on Sunday in Baraka area of Mowlem, Dandora.
According to police sources, the ringleader identified only as Mutuku and his accomplices had been on the run for a long time.
“They have terrorised Nairobians from all corners of the city; Mukuru, Kitengela, Kayole, Buruburu, Kasarani, Ruiru and Thika.”
The suspects were reportedly shot dead by the revered crime buster Ahmed Rashid, popularly known as Hessy.
On Tuesday afternoon, Sonko celebrated the gunning down of the thugs and announced a cash reward of half a million to the police for the “good job”.
“On 8th November at 4.51am I posted the attached video and told these burgers terrorizing Nairobians that their days were numbered. On 10th of November, while attending a fundraising in Matopeni – Kayole of a Nairobian Harrison Kinyanjui Karanja who had been shot and seriously injured. We gave a 7 days’ notice to any member of the armed gang to surrender all their guns and stop terrorizing innocent Nairobians with immediate effect,” Sonko wrote.
“Some have complied but for those who thought it was a joke and were caught on CCTV footage robbing traders at gunpoint, this is the good price they got. Bravo, bravo, bravo to our cops who did this good job. You have a reward of 500k from me and I urge you to continue with the good job of protecting all innocent hard working Nairobians,” he added.
