A former Embu County Assembly hopeful has been arraigned in court for allegedly trafficking marijuana.
Dennis Mbae Mutegi, who was contesting the Kirimari ward representative seat on a Maendeleo Chap Chap party ticket, was arraigned in court on Thursday and charged with trafficking Cannabis Sativa worth Sh260,000.
The former politician was charged that on November 14, 2018 at Dallas Estate in Embu County, he was found trafficking Cannabis Sativa weighing 13 kilograms with a street value of Sh260K in contravention of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substance Control Act.
Mr. Mutegi was nabbed after police officers who had been on his trail for three months cornered him at his house in Dallas estate. Authorities recovered the marijuana following a search on the suspect’s Probox vehicle.
Appearing before Embu Law Courts Resident Magistrate Jean Ndengeri, the politician denied the offense.
He was released on a Sh300,000 bond with two sureties of a similar amount.
The matter will be mentioned on November 29 and hearing on December 13, 2018.
The prosecution was also ordered to supply the accused with all the documentary evidence that will be used in the case.
