A Kenya Defense Forces officer has been charged in court for the rape of a female refugee at Central police station quarters.
Arektum Kibet, who is based at Gilgil Barracks, is accused of being among four suspects who gang-raped a Congolese refugee, 33, on August 14 from 8 pm to 11 am the following day.
The victim told the police that on the fateful day she was stopped by two men in police uniforms. She produced an alien’s ID card but was handed over to two men in civilian clothes who took her to the station in a private car.
She said four men raped her in turns in one of the police officers’ house before she managed to escape the following day at 11 am when her last molester fell asleep.
Pictures of the house are being used as part of the evidence in the trial, the Star reports.
The woman, whose identity has been concealed, added that she lost Sh10,000 and her clothes during the ordeal.
Appearing before chief magistrate Francis Andayi on Tuesday, the accused, Arektum Kibet, denied the charges.
He was remanded to await consolidation of his case with that of his co-accused, a 42-year-old freelance photographer.
