Wedding Bells For Gay Kenyan Author Binyavanga Wainaina and Longterm Nigerian Partner

May 3, 2018

Ezekiel Mutua should be steaming hotter than a volcanic mountain anytime now. This is because his vigorous campaign against homosexuality in the country has suffered a major blow as Kenya’s most prominent gay personality – Author Binyavanga Wainaina- gears up for a walk down the aisle early next year.

The writer, who publicly outed his sexual orientation during his 43rd birthday on January 18, 2014, in an article titled “I am a homosexual, mum,” has proposed to the love of his life.

While making the announcement on his Facebook page, the Caine Prize winner revealed that his partner is a Nigerian national. They will solemnize their 6-year-old on and off relationship in South Africa where they will also be living.

“I asked my love for his hand in marriage two weeks ago. He said yes, nearly immediately. He is Nigerian. We will be living in South Africa, where he will be studying next year. We will get married there, early next year,” said Wainaina.

The author further said that Kenyans will not be left out of his wedding celebrations, with a reception party slated for “some time next year” in Nairobi.

“We will have a reception for Kenyans in Nairobi some time next year too.”

Nigerians will also be included in the celebrations. Binyavanga confirmed this, saying; “I am sure we will have a party for Nigerians later next year.”

Binyavanga, who publicly announced his positive HIV status on Twitter on 1 December 2016, World Aids Day, further sang his partner’s praises describing him as “gentle and with the most gorgeous heart”.

“Nothing has surprised me more than coming to love this person, who is gentle and has the most gorgeous heart. I consider myself hugely lucky that he loves me and I have only recently fallen in love with him, but we have known each other and have been dating on and off since 2012.”

And in the comments section, Binyavanga revealed what he would love to wear on his big day: a dress.

It remains to be seen if KFCB boss Ezekiel Mutua will allow that reception party in Nairobi.
