Anerlisa Muigai Defends Offensive “Obesity is a Choice” Remark

March 6, 2018

Keroche heiress Anerlisa Muigai over the weekend landed in trouble with netizens after making a seemingly offensive post on social media about obesity.

The daughter of Keroche Breweries founder and CEO, Tabitha Karanja, has been the talk of the town after her recent weight loss feat in which she lost 7kgs in a month.

While many were inspired by her remarkable achievement, there are those who have been questioning her weight loss methods because she had never been seen in a gym, albeit until recently.

She was particularly discussed on a show on Ebru TV in which one of the panelists, who is plus size, alleged that Anerlisa had liposuction procedure done to reduce her weight.

This appears to have irked the young CEO who hit back at her haters in a distasteful post that caused quite the uproar. It read: “If some of y’all would run as fast as you ran your mouths, I am sure by the end of the year, you could be smaller than me,” alongside a controversial hashtag; #ObesityisaChoice.

Following a flurry of angry reactions from her followers, Anerlisa was forced to apologize, explaining that she never meant to ridicule those struggling with weight loss.

She wrote: “I wanted to take a moment and apologise for what I posted yesterday. That post was directed at someone most of you know. I am fully responsible for what I post and it’s unfortunate that it got out of hand and offended so many people.
At no given time would I ever disrespect or ridicule people struggling with weight loss as I have been there myself. Trust me, I know just how hard it is. The hashtag #ObesityIsAChoice was referring to those who have the full capacity to work out and eat right but choose not to. I am fully aware that some people suffer from certain conditions that make it hard to lose weight.
Please find a place in your heart to forgive me. I did not mean to offend anyone. Have a blessed week ahead.”
