PHOTO – Dennis Itumbi Finally Receives State Commendation Medal

February 1, 2018

State House Director of Digital Communications Dennis Itumbi is winning big time this week.

Barely a day after he was awarded Sh5 million as compensation for illegal arrest and detention by police in 2012, the former blogger has another reason to smile. This after his medal, awarded by President Uhuru Kenyatta during last year’s Jamhuri Celebrations, was finally delivered to him.

Itumbi was among a host of Kenyans who received the highly coveted Head of State Commendation in the Civilian Division.

The medals are normally given to individuals in recognition of outstanding or distinguished services rendered to the nation in various capacities and responsibilities.

The awards are made by the Head of State upon the advice of a National Honours and Awards Committee in the president’s office.

Individuals are nominated for awards by district committees, government ministries, religious organisations, non-governmental organisations, individuals and others.

They are the Order of the Golden Heart of Kenya, Uhodari Medal, The Order of the Burning Spear, The Order of the Grand Warrior of Kenya, The Distinguished Conduct Order, The Distinguished Service Medal and The Silver Star of Kenya.

The Chief of the Order of the Golden Heart of Kenya is the highest honour in Kenya.

While Itumbi’s commendation and those of others, including Githeri Man, singer Ben Githae, caused an online uproar from Kenyans, the State House director of digital communications was elated to finally receive his medal.

“The Medal has been delivered. Much appreciation for the honour and the badge,” said Itumbi.

Here’s a photo of the medal.
