Kirinyaga County Governor Anne Waiguru on Wednesday pulled a Magufuli when she stormed the Kianyaga sub-county hospital after patients complained about a lack of drugs.

The former Devolution CS made an impromptu visit to the facility accompanied by Health CEC Agnes Gachoki.

Area residents had earlier lectured her after she claimed that all hospitals in the county are fully stocked with drugs.

During a meeting in the county, an elderly woman narrated to Waiguru how she was unable to get medication from the facility.

“Last week my grandchild was taken ill with pneumonia and difficulty in breathing and we visited Kianyaga hospital. After consultation, we were informed that there are no drugs and the only option is to go and buy at a private chemist. I spent Sh2,000 with drugs,” the woman said.

She was speaking during a public participation meeting for Kirinyaga Rising Vision 2035.

The residents reportedly booed and jeered their County boss as she said, “There is no way you can be forced to buy drugs when there is enough in all health facilities in the county.”

Waiguru then headed straight to the hospital where she met more patients who claimed they were being forced to buy medication outside the hospital.

The Governor put officials on the spot and questioned them over the lack of medication. She further directed the immediate purchase of the unavailable drugs.

Waiguru also directed the hospital staff to prescribe those in need with available alternatives.
