Machakos County Governor Dr Alfred Mutua has once again expressed his intention to vie for the presidency in 2022.
Dr Mutua first announced his bid during the launch of his re-election manifesto in July. During his manifesto launch, Dr Mutua said he had made wide consultations with elders, opinion leaders, and leaders from all walks of life before arriving at the decision to seek the country’s top job in 2022.
Speaking about his bid during the 13th annual primary school heads meet in Mombasa on Wednesday, Mutua said he will shock the country.
The former government spokesperson said his track record will make his win in the next general election “inevitable”.
“I’m planning to shock Kenya in the next few years,” he said.
“I will show you what I’m capable of doing.”
Mutua, who has seen a steady rise especially after the formation of Maendeleo Chap Chap, is likely to face off against Kalonzo Musyoka and DP Ruto.
According to some pundits, Mutua may be positioning himself for selection to be Ruto’s running mate.
DP ruto remains a firm favorite to take over the top seat from his boss, Uhuru. Others who may vie for president come 2022 are ANC leader Musalia Mudavadi, Ford Kenya’s Moses Wetang’ula, Baringo Senator Gideon Moi and former Meru Governor Peter Munya.
