The celebrated actress and radio personality Jacqueline Nyaminde best known for her role in ‘Papa Shirandula’ has more than one reason to celebrate a great 2017.

Yesterday, Ms Nyaminde turned a year older making it one of the reasons why 2017 has been special to her. In addition to celebrating her birthday, this year also marks her 10th year anniversary as ‘Wilbroda’ on the seasoned Citizen TV comedy series ‘Papa Shirandula.’

According to Ms Nyaminde, the Wilbroda role, which she initially had reservations about, opened endless doors.

In a past interview, Nyaminde revealed that it took a lot of persuasion from Charles Bukeko alias Papa Shirandula to accept the role.

“I used to do a lot of Luo plays at the Kenya National Theatre. So when Charles Bukeko approached me with a script of a Luo woman character, I auditioned.”

She added: “He gave me the script which I initially wasn’t keen on. But Charles insisted I go through it. I read it, and I was like wow! The Wilbroda woman in the script is me!”

Another reason why this year has been special to her is that she has been making some meaningful changes in her life, including quitting the bottle.

She made the revelations in a social media post yesterday as she celebrated her birthday.

Ms Nyaminde wrote:

“This year has been special to me in many ways. I finally got the courage to stop excuses and JUST DO IT.

I finally quit drinking. I never knew I’d be able to until I tried. And I DID IT! I went to the gym and lost some weight. I was concerned for my health, so I DID IT! I made meaningful friendships. I got closer with family, closer to God. At one point in life, you realise that there are very few people who truly care.

This year also marks my 10th year anniversary as Wilbroda in Papa Shirandula, a role that opened endless doors.

I’m eternally grateful to friends and family for their love and support, and to Almighty God for strength I didn’t think I had.
Here’s to me. Happy Birthday to me.”
