A 40 man attempted to kill his wife and six children by setting his house on fire in Bungoma County.

Robert Fwamba, 40, from Mukwa village in Kabuchai constituency reportedly doused his own home with petrol on Wednesday night after a domestic quarrel with his wife, Catherine Nangila.

According to Nangila, her husband had threatened to kill her and their children but she took the matter lightly.

“He told me this again while holding a matchbox and petrol. He set the house on fire with the children inside,” she said.

They escaped death narrowly after their distress calls alerted neighbours who rushed to the scene and put out the fire.

According to a neighbour, identified as Alfred Wekesa, this was the fourth time the man had tried to kill his family after quarreling with his wife.

He said the two often fought while the children watched and that Fwamba was usually drunk.

“This is not the first time we are seeing this. It should be the fourth time this man has tried to kill his family. We want police to arrest and charge him.”

A manhunt has been launched for Fwamba who fled the scene after the incident.

The fire destroyed property including the man’s motorcycle.
