A suspected thief was on Sunday killed by an irate mob for allegedly stealing groceries at a local store.

The man allegedly broke into the local Kiosk in Spring Valley Estate at around 5 am and stole potatoes, tomatoes and pineapples.

The store owner, Mary Muthoni, said she raised the alarm when she heard the suspect packing the items.

Area residents who responded to Muthoni’s distress call cornered the suspect as he tried to escape. According to reports, they beat him to death before setting his body on fire.

According to the residents, their estate has been hit by a wave of insecurity with thugs gaining access to their homes and robbing them of valuables.

“We asked police to intensify patrols to curb the rampant insecurity, failure to which we will continue to lynch the suspects,” a resident said.

The suspect’s body was moved to Embu Teaching and Referral Hospital mortuary.
