A 19-Year-Old man and a girl, aged 13, from Kokwet Village in Kipkelion Sub-County, Kericho County were on Wednesday arrested on suspicion of committing incest.

The teenagers, who had eloped one month ago, were living in a makeshift tent pitched in a bush in Kapinguroon, when the police found them.

Torotoon Location chief, Richard Koech, said a missing persons report had been filed, prompting a search for the maternal cousins.

He said security officers nabbed the lovers Wednesday morning after residents informed the police about their whereabouts.

The Chief revealed that the male suspect was being housed by the 13-year-old girl’s father in Kericho town, where the illicit love affair between the two cousins blossomed.

During his stay in Kericho town, the suspect was pursuing a driving course and did menial jobs in Kericho town to provide for his lover.

He reportedly managed to convince the Class Six pupil into eloping with him into a nearby bush, where they put up for a month before being discovered.

The suspect is being held at the Fortenan Police Station as investigations continue.

The Chief said once the investigation is concluded, the male suspect could face charges of incest, and being in a relationship with a minor.
