A man on Monday night allegedly stabbed his wife to death at Tayari estate on the outskirts of Molo town.
Daniel Mwangi is said to have stabbed Jacinta Nyambura, 25, multiple times before hanging himself in the room he had locked.
The body of Nyambura, who was a primary school teacher, was found in a pool of blood with multiple stab wounds to the chest, neck, and stomach.
According to witnesses, the two engaged in a heated argument before the woman was heard screaming.
A neighbour, identified as Paul Itume, said they could not help since the house was locked from inside. They later managed to break and found the man’s body hanging from the ceiling and the woman’s lying on the floor.
“I don’t know exactly what happened but we thought it was the usual domestic squabble mostly experienced among youthful people. We are shaken by the unfortunate turn of events,” said Itume.
The woman taught at a private school in Molo town while the husband was a quiet bodaboda operator, residents claimed.
According to police, Mwangi left behind a suicide note accusing his wife of having an affair.
“I love her so much she cannot date another man while I’m still alive. It is so stupid of me to do this (commit murder, suicide), but why should I live?” read the note in part.
The incident came a day after a woman aged 27 committed suicide after quarrelling with her husband.
In another shocking incident, a policeman attached to the Presidential Escort shot and killed his girlfriend in Nairobi after his marriage proposal was rejected. He then turned the gun on himself in an attempt to take his own life.
