Activist Behind ‘Baba While You were Away’ Slogan in ODM Member of Assembly Nomination List

August 1, 2017

One of Raila’s diehard supporters, Japheth Moroko of the ‘baba while you were away’ slogan could be a nominated member of parliament after the August 8 General Election.

Mr Moroko has been proposed for nomination as a member of the Nairobi County Assembly.

Moroko, the grandson of freedom fighter Dedan Kimathi’s deputy, rose to fame in May 2014 when he coined the slogan to welcome home and inform Raila on the failings of Jubilee government following his three-month sojourn in the United States.

He made headlines again in May 2016 when he was badly injured by the police during street demos organized by CORD seeking to disband the then Ahmed Issack Hassan-led electoral commission.

Mr Maroko has, however, hinted that he will not accept the nomination if Raila fails to clinch the presidency in the August 8 General Election.
