Two people were on Sunday allegedly shot by bodyguards attached to Nairobi Senator Mike Sonko.

The victims suffered bullet injuries in the thigh and arm after chaos erupted at Vumilia village in Nairobi’s Outering Road.

They are admitted to Mama Lucy Kibaki hospital.

Nairobi DCI chief Nicholas Ireri Kamwende said police are investigating the incident with an aim of taking action.

Detectives also suspect the bodyguards could be those attached to Embakasi East Jubilee MP candidate Francis Mureithi who was also at the event.

Sonko and Mureithi were on a campaign trail in the area and had stopped to distribute handouts when the fracas broke out.

The two victims were among hundreds of youth who had attended the political event.

Sonko’s running mate for the Nairobi gubernatorial race Polycarp Igathe has dismissed the allegations.

“Those are detractors. Let them leave us to do our work,” said the deputy governor candidate.
