A middle aged man has been arrested on suspicion of a strangling a three-year-old boy and dumping his body in River Amalo in Bomet County.

The incident occurred last Sunday night when the boy’s mother, who was in a ‘come-we-stay’ relationship with the suspect, was away from home.

The boy’s mother, Cynthia Chepkemoi, filed a report at the Mulot Police post after she returned home at 6pm Sunday and found her son was missing.

According to residents, the suspect was last seen on Sunday evening carrying the boy, who wasn’t his biological son, toward River Amalo, where the boy’s body was discovered.

Confirming the incident, Bomet OCPD Samson Rukunga said parts of the boy’s neck had bruises, indicating a possible strangulation by the suspect.

It is believed the suspect murdered the boy over disagreements he had with Chepkemoi. According to neighbours, the man had suspected that Chepkemoi was dating other men.

The man was arrested and taken to the Bomet Police Station as investigations into the matter continue.
