June 20, 2017

A 46-Year-Old man was on Monday beaten to death after he was accused of stealing maize from a neighbour’s farm.

The man from Kawuor Bondo village in Kagan West, Rangwe sub-county in Homa Bay County reportedly confessed that he stole the maize because he was hungry and had no money.

“He said he had no money to buy maize flour, currently retailing at Sh140 for a 2kg packet,” a resident said.

According to witnesses, the man was caught red-handed leaving the farm with a sack full of maize.

Area residents descended on him with kicks and blows leading to his death.

Confirming the incident, County police boss John Omusanga said the man had already died by the time his officers arrived.

He urged residents not to take the law into their own hands.
