Police Arrest Three in the Murder of Kenya Rugby Player Wekesa During Street Brawl

Police at Mlolongo Police Station, Machakos County have arrested and detained three suspects in the murder of former Kenya and Homeboyz RFC forward Andrew Wekesa.

Officer Commanding Police Division (OCPD) in Mlolongo Sharma Wario said Wekesa was killed on Sunday night following a brawl that occurred outside a bar in the outskirts of Nairobi.

Initial reports had indicted that Wekesa was accosted by unknown assailants on his way to his Kitengela home and stabbed to death, but according to the police boss, Wekesa was in the company of a friend when an argument ensued with another group.

“He was in the company of another man when an argument ensued between him and another group. A fight broke out and it spilled into the street,” Wario told Citizen Digital.

The OCPD futher detailed how one of three arrested suspects went into a vehicle and returned with what is believed to be a screwdriver and stabbed Wekesa in the chest after the heavily built rugby player had subdued them.

Members of the public rushed Wekesa to Shalom Hospital in Athi River but he succumbed to the injuries.

They also accosted the assailants and prevented them from leaving the scene of the incident.

“Police officers on patrol were alerted and they apprehended them, “Wario said.

The 25 Year-Old was a graduate of Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology is the third Kenyan player to pass on after the deaths of Mwamba’s Victor Wayodi and Nondescripts’ Ogeto Gacheo in 2016.
