Investigations have been launched by police in Rongo, Migori County, into the death of a 60-year-old woman who was found murdered and her body dumped at a sugarcane plantation in Korwe Village.
Rusalina Oketch’s body was found by her grandson while on a search after she failed to return home on Monday night, December 12.
The grandson, Daniel Otieno, said Ms Oketch left home at 7.30am to go to a nearby sugar plantation where she worked as a casual labourer and she was expected back in the afternoon to attend a funeral but did not show up, raising concerns among relatives.
“She left home on Monday morning for the sugarcane plantation but when she failed to return home at around 6 pm we got worried and went to search for her, only to find her lifeless body at the plantation,” said Otieno.
Rongo OCPD Kisaka Muganda confirmed the incident saying the deceased had suffered injuries at the back of her head which he suspects must have been inflicted by a blunt object.
Investigations are ongoing.
