Early this year, Michael Olunga signed a four-year deal with Swedish club Djurgardens IF after a one month trial.
After a slow start in front of goal, the Harambee Stars striker finished his first season with the club as the team’s top scorer. Olunga, nicknamed ‘The Engineer’ scored 12 goals in 27 appearances, 8 of which he appeared as a substitute.
Owing to incredible stats, the former Gor Mahia striker has been nominated for the New Player of the Year in the 2016 Swedish Allsvenskan end of season awards.
Following his final match of the season in which he scored a brace, Olunga took to social media to express his gratitude.
He posted, “I want to thank God for everything he has done in my life…Thanks for the two goals today.. and for finishing my first season with 12 goals for my team djurgadens IF…I want to thank all my fans who have stood by me during the bad times and good times...May God bless you and your family. To all my teammates, thanks for the effort we put in together….Above all my family and my MUM for the guidance you gave me…All I can repay you is by saying thank you…See you next season..#GODABOVEALL“
