A suspected robber was on Monday gunned down as three others escaped with bullet wounds after an attempted raid on Peter Kenneth’s house in Nyali, Mombasa County.
According to police, the suspected robbers had gained access into the former presidential aspirant’s compound on a robbery mission, during the 4 am incident in the wee hours of Monday.
The thugs, armed with crude weapons, are said to have raided the house expecting to find unarmed guards only for them to be ambushed by Administration Police officers guarding the home.
The officers recovered machetes and knives.
Confirming the incident, Mombasa county police commander Peterson Maelo told Baraka FM they were in hot pursuit of the other three who escaped with injuries.
“The suspects were challenged but they defied police orders, prompting police to open fire,” said the police boss.
He added that they have asked local hospitals and clinics to report any patients suffering from gunshot wounds.
