With all the anger about the Mafia House scandal, it would have been expected that thousands will take to the streets of Nairobi to protest.
Activists had scheduled a protest in Nairobi to demand the resignation of top Ministry of Health officials. The turnout was however nothing to report about. Actually, it was so low we had to report about it.
Less than 20 demonstrators carrying banners and pig heads marched from Milimani Law Courts to Afya House on Wednesday morning. The police officers waiting for them outside Afya House with teargas canisters were actually more.
It’s a big shame for a country that hopes to force the government to act.
Today, another group led by Boniface Mwangi will be holding demos. Perhaps Mwangi’s star-power, organizational skills and his love for the dramatic will attract a bigger crowd.
