Kevote High School students on Sunday night thwarted an attempt by members of a gang to break into a catholic church.
The gang of ten is said to have stormed St.Paul’s Kevote Catholic in Embu County shortly after midnight targeting over Sh30,000 church youth had raised for the renovation of their workshop.
According to Parish priest Agapius Kamau, the gang had broken the church gate and were about to break into the priest’s house when a watchmen turned the alarm.
The alarm alerted the Form Four students and members of the community who helped stop the robbery.
Mr Kamau said the attack follows another one in April where Sh 100,000 was stolen.
He faulted the police for failing to show up in time despite the local police post being located only 200 metres away from the church.
He was, however, thankful to the students who had earlier attended a thanksgiving mass at the church to bid farewell to members of the community.
