A 22 year old student at Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology (JKUAT) has died mysteriously after a disagreement with friends.
Malvin Eshitera was pursuing a Bachelor in Information Technology at the main campus in Juja. He stayed at a private hostel outside the institution.
According to the hostel’s watchman, Malvin was visited by friends, who beat him up and left him for the dead. It is believed that a girl was at the centre of the argument.
The deceased brother, Benson Eshitera, told Nation that his phone had text messages from an ex-girlfriend over a bitter breakup. They however were not of threatening nature.
”His phone had text messages from an ex-girlfriend over a bitter break up but there were no threat messages,” he said.
He further revealed that postmortem results had been concealed from the family, and that it was the mortuary that told them their loved one suffered severe bleeding.
Mr. Eshitera told of their displeasure in the way investigations were carried out. He said that one of the suspects arrested had a blood stained T-shirt in his room, but police have not disclosed that piece of information.
But police have refuted the family’s version of the story, saying their kin was a thief.
Kiambu County Commander James Mugera has said that Malvin had stolen a TV set which led to his beating. He however confirmed that 5 students have been arrested in connection to the crime and are still in police custody.
