A senior police officer in Murang’a on Tuesday morning shot himself after resuming work from his leave of absence on Sunday.
Daniel Ragae, who is in charge of Ngeliya Administration Police Post in Gatanga Sub County , shot himself in the head using a G3 rifle.
Colleagues who heard the gunshot rushed to the scene and grabbed the gun from him before he could pull the second trigger.
‘We heard a gunshot rent the air. We rushed to his house and snatched the rifle [from him] and immobilized him, he was oozing blood from the head,” one of the colleagues said.
The officer was rushed to a nearby health centre for first aid before he was moved to Thika District Hospital.
One of his colleagues said Ragae looked stressed and depressed but did not open up on what was troubling him.
Murang’a County Commissioner John Elungata said police have launched investigations into the incident.
He urged police officers to share their problems to avoid such cases.
