Frank Anunda, a KRA official, inspects a vehicle belonging to CS Eugene Wamalwa at the Railway Club in May

A Range Rover belonging to Water CS Eugene Wamalwa was stolen from the United Kingdom, a Nairobi court has heard.

The Kenya Revenue Authority revealed this on Monday and asked the court to reject Wamalwa’s application for the car’s release.

KRA said Interpol investigators found that the vehicle,  which accrued Sh6.5 million in unpaid taxes, was stolen and not imported as reported by Mr.Wamalwa.

Martha Mutuku, Milimani senior principal magistrate, ordered that the vehicle, registration KCE 683H, be transported back to the UK for further investigations.

Mutuku also issued warrants of arrest against Edwin Owiti and Joshua Ayalo of Hearland company, who did not appear in court for plea taking.

They face charges of fraudulent importation and registration of high-end vehicles, including the Range Rover, without the payment of taxes.

The vehicle was among 124 vehicles wanted in May by the taxman for outstanding tax issues.

It was later found to have unpaid duty and registered as a lorry on its importation papers.
