Despite losing the final of the Women’s CECAFA Championship in Jinja, Uganda, Kenya’s Harambee Starlets have had an impressive tournament that has made Kenyans proud.
On their way to the final, the Starlets beat Uganda and Burundi by identical 4-0 scores before hammering Zanzibar 11-0.
In a hotly contested semi-final, the Starlets came from behind to defeat tournament favorites Ethiopia 3-2.
The Starlets have had a good run since they started taking part in international competitions this year. They made history by qualifying for the Women Africa Cup of Nations to be hosted by Cameroon in November.
Following their outing in Uganda, Nairobi senator Mike Sonko traveled to Jinja, Uganda and surprised the girls with ‘something small to go out.’
The wealthy senator rewarded their efforts with Sh 100,000 and further assured the players he would set up a State House date with President Uhuru Kenyatta.
