Deputy President William Ruto’s wife Rachel Ruto has advised women on what it takes to have a marriage that lasts.
Married to Kenya’s second in Command since 1991, the Second Lady of Kenya says respect is key in keeping the peace in marriage.
She was speaking at a function attended by hundreds of women at the Pentecostal Assemblies of God Church in Sango, Kakamega County last weekend.
“My fellow women love your husbands. Don’t disrespect them, don’t fight them. The world is already harsh to them; when they come home, you should give them a peace of mind. Start calling him appealing names like ‘sweetheart’, ‘honey’; even if he had made you angry,” said Rachel Ruto as quoted by eDaily.
“I know sometimes they (men) can get on our nerves. Nonetheless, we should love them for peace to prevail. When you are living in harmony with your partner, your life will be less stressful. What is this model of family structure called ‘single mother’? To me, there is nothing like a single mother. Smile charmingly, and you will find your Mr Right,” added Mrs Ruto.
She also urged women to look out for each other in solving financial problems facing women.
“Women, let us love each other. We should not despise one another. We should not perceive other women as less helpful. Let us accommodate each other. We can make money if we are united. I urge women to form groups such as table-banking. It will go a long way in solving financial problems facing women,” said Rachel Ruto.
