Tragedy struck Nakuru County, Kiambogo area on Tuesday evening after a 13 year old pupil took her own life after an argument with her mother.
The lifeless body of the standard three pupil at Kanorero Primary School in Elementaita, was found dangling from a tree at the center of a maize plantation in Munyaka village on the outskirts of Gilgil town.
“She may have used a headscarf to commit suicide,” said John Kariuki, a villager, adding that there were no signs of any struggle at the scene.
Gilgil Officer Commanding Police Division Ms Serah Koki, confirmed the incident saying investigations have been launched to establish circumstances that led to the incident.
“We are currently interrogating her parents to establish if indeed they had differences prior to her death as neighbors disclosed,” Ms Koki told Nairobi News.
Police established that the girl had been accompanied by her younger sister, aged 12, and a neighbor’s girl, also 12, to fetch firewood at Sururu forest a day before she was found dead.
After the chore, the two girls returned home but the deceased refused to go home saying she feared being punished by her mother, whom she had wronged the previous day.
“We urged her to accompany us back home but she refused,”said one of the girls.
The body was taken to the Nakuru county mortuary awaiting postmortem.
