The official opening of the new Nairobi County Assembly chambers has been postponed after invited guests, including President Uhuru Kenyatta, failed to turn up in unclear circumstances.
Governor Evans Kidero announced the postponement amid alleged threats by a section of Members of the County Assembly (MCAs) from the Coalition for Reforms and Democracy (CORD) to disrupt the function.
The function was marred with confusion as rowdy youths demanded the ejection of County Majority leader Elias Otieno over what they termed as his efforts to undermine the county’s executive arm.
It took the intervention of Governor Evans Kidero to calm them down.
Kidero said the event had been cancelled due to miscommunication by the county assembly and will be done at a later date.
