President Uhuru Kenyatta and his deputy William Ruto joined in the mourning of nine people who drowned in Lake Victoria on June 25, 2016.
The deceased were part of a 17 member band and were on a boat headed to a show when it capsized near Lihunda beach in Siaya county.
The two leaders also donated Sh200,000 towards buying new equipment for the Boyieta Wuod Awasi Band.
Uhuru and Ruto also donated Sh100,000 each to each bereaved family.
The donations were presented to the families on Tuesday by Ministry of Sports Permanent Secretaries, Mr Joe Okudo and Ambassador Richard Ekai.
In his message honouring the deceased, the President expressed that the tragedy had robbed Kenya of highly talented and distinctive artistes.
Apart from Uhuru and Ruto, Siaya Governor Cornel Rasanga also chipped in the burial arrangements by buying all the coffins and assured fishermen on the lake that he would supply them with life jackets.
