A police officer was on Wednesday morning shot and seriously wounded inside a public service vehicle along Juja Road in Nairobi.

The officer attached to Pangani Police Station was on his way to work when a gang of four robbers boarded the bus he was travelling in.

Passengers were robbed of their valuables and money by the criminals in the 6 am incident.

Nairobi police commandant Japheth Koome confirmed the incident saying police have launched a manhunt for the gangsters who are suspected to be terrorising residents in the area.

“The officer removed his pistol with a view of stopping the robbery. One of the gangsters saw him and opened fire, injuring our officer. Right now an operation is underway to ensure the gangsters are arrested,” stated Koome.

This is the second time such an incident has been reported in the area, coming less than a month after the previous one.

Last month, an Administration Police officer Abdiaziz Hussein was shot dead in a matatu attacked by robbers; the criminals were later shot dead.
