Embakasi South MP Irshad Sumra has called on Gusii people to grow and transport more bhang for ODM youth in Nairobi.
While addressing an ODM rally in Nyamira, Kisii County on June 10, Sumra said the youth need the bhang to stoke the fire of their anti-IEBC demonstrations.
“You people of Gusii are good because you keep us supplied with bhang, which most of the youth in Nairobi smoke and move to the streets with all the power.
Just increase its production because we need much of it for the demonstrating youth because we are not going to give up in the anti-IEBC war.” Sumra said.
“Nataka mtumie wale vijana wenu wako Nairobi bangi nyingi kwa sababu ndiyo inanisaidia kubeba mawe (I want you to continue supplying the substance to your youth in the city because it is very good for stone throwing),” He added, as quoted by Standard Digital.
The remarks however landed him in trouble with residents of Nyamira.
Led by businessman Simeon Mocheche, they demanded that the MP should apologise to the community.
“As the business community from Nyamira we are unhappy with the sentiments which were made by the Embakasi South MP on Friday in Nyamira that we are good in planting bhang and transporting it. We would like the MP to apologise to the community,” Mocheche said as quoted by Hivisasa.
Religious leaders in the area also shunned the MP’s utterances and cautioned politicians against careless remarks.
“As the church we are unhappy with the remarks which were made by the MP. Let him know that the Abagusii are hardworking people and they are not in that deal as the MP stated,” Pastor Ronald Ogentoto of Matutu PAG Church said.
