No sooner had Kenya Revenue Authority issued a list of 124 vehicles wanted for outstanding tax issues, than Kenyans on Twitter(KOT) started locating them.
In a public notice published on a local daily, Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) directed owners of the listed vehicles to present the vehicles for verification on Tuesday morning at the Nairobi Railways Club. In addition, they were ordered to produce the original ownership, transfer and importation documents of the vehicles.
The vehicles are suspected to have made their way into the local market illegally.
KRA Commissioner General John Njiraini urged the current registered owners of the cars to co-operate with the authority. The move is aimed at netting car dealers who have been evading tax.
“We are conscious that some of these vehicles may have already been sold to innocent unsuspecting customers and we are asking them to co-operate with our officers in the ongoing investigations,” Njiraini said.
The 124 recalled cars comprise of Sports Utility Vehicles, some of which have already been spotted by Kenyans.
