Year in year out, Jane Anyango Adika aka ‘Mama Serikali’ has been a recurring eye witness reporter every time River Nyando bursts its banks. As a result, she has become a popular public figure whose cry for government’s help has often gone unanswered.
Back in September her cries were finally heard after a government delegation led by Water and Irrigation Cabinet Secretary, Eugene Wamalwa paid her a visit at her home in Kisumu. During the visit, Wamalwa assured Jane and area residents that plans were underway to build two dams in the Nyando River Basin.
That was not all for Jane. She has been appointed as the Flood Preparedness Ambassador under the department of Special Programmes by the Kisumu County Government.
According to Kisumu County governor, Jack Ranguma, the post befits Jane and he is convinced that she will educate the masses on flood management considering she has been a victim for the longest time.
The mother of six will undergo a short training on disaster preparedness and mitigation to boost her delivery potential on radio, public barazas and other multimedia platforms.
Good tidings for Jane as earlier in the year she landed a lucrative advertisement deal with Safaricom for the Storo Ibambe campaign.
