The Pope is expected in the country exactly one week from now.

He will land at JKIA on Wednesday 25th at around 5pm, then head straight to State House for a welcome ceremony and courtesy call. According to the official programme, he will meet Kenyan authorities and diplomats at 6:30 at State House.

He will spend the night at the apostolic nunciature in Westlands, also known as the Embassy of the Holy City. Unlike other world leaders, the Pope does not stay in expensive hotels.

On Thursday, the Pope will hold and interreligious and ecumenical meeting at the Apostolic Nunciature, from around 8:15am.

At 10am, he will hold the much anticipated public mass at University of Nairobi grounds. Later in the afternoon at around 3:45pm, he will hold a meeting with clergy, and seminarians at St. Mary’s grounds in Nairobi.

He will then visit UNEP Headquarters in Gigiri at 5:30pm.

On Friday, Pope Francis will visit Kangemi slums at 8:30 am, and then meet the youth at Kasarani at 10:00am. He will meet Kenyan bishops at the same venue from 11:15am.

At 3:10 am, a brief farewell ceremony will be held at JKIA before he leaves for Uganda 20 minutes later.

A special podium has been constructed at University of Nairobi grounds, to be used for the public mass. Its beauty is striking.

This is the altar he will use.

There’s a whole story about it, and we’ll be writing about that as the day approaches.
