mboyaIt’s Throwback Thursday and on this edition, we take you back through Kenya’s volatile political climate of the late 60s. Specifically in 1969 during the funeral mass for Tom Mboya.

The Luo politician had just been assassinated and the country was at risk of breaking apart with Kikuyu on one side and Luos on the other.

Police lined up the streets as President Kenyatta joined other government leaders at All Saints Cathedral to say their final farewells. During the mass, the inevitable happened and there were riots across town as Luos crashed with Kikuyus while riot police tried to maintain order.
