Asmelash Zerefu
After years of many trials and failures, an Ethiopian man named, Asmelash Zerefu, has finally beat all odds to create and design a functional home-built aircraft. The 35 year old who fell in love with airplanes at a very tender age, did not qualify to join Ethiopian Airlines Aviation Academy because he was a centimeter short.

However, not qualifying for the aviation college did not discourage him as he managed to use an old Suzuki motorcycle and recycled the engine of a Volkswagen Beetle to make a fully functional airplane.

After successfully making the plane, Asmelash has bagged himself a scholarship to Netherlands’ Inholland University of Applied Sciences where he will now study Aeronautical Engineering.

Below are photos of the aircraft the Ethiopian came up with.
